And now ... The Final Word
I'm posting this while the games are still going tonight so you, the loyal reader, can get a sneak peak at tomorrow's action. Multi-tasking!
Davidson vs. Wisconsin
Stephen Curry, meet Michael Flowers. Curry, the tournament’s leading scorer with 70 points in two games for Davidson, will be matched up against Flowers, the top defender in the Big Ten at Wisconsin. The Badgers will try to badger Curry into a poor shooting night, and more often than not, they’re successful. With 6-11 forward Brian Butch and Greg Steimsma, Wisconsin will also have the advantage inside – but so did Georgetown in the second-round game against the Wildcats.
Bracket Boy says: First, free laundry. Now, Davidson is paying for a bus trip, tickets and hotel rooms for students who want to attend the games. Can free kegs for every dorm room be far behind? Pick: Wisconsin.
Stanford vs. Texas
The spotlight for Stanford always centers on the 7-foot Lopez twins, Brook and Robin, and their dominance inside. But the player who makes the Cardinal go is point guard Mitch Johnson. He’ll have his hands full today, however, with Texas’ backcourt of D.J. Augustin and A.J. Abrams. Texas, however, will need contributions from big man Connor Atchley. Pick: Texas.
Bracket Boy says: Is it some kind of an NCAA rule that Stanford always has to have twins? Pick: Texas.
Villanova vs. Kansas
You think Oklahoma fans are anxious to watch Scottie Reynolds again? He got out of his letter of intent to OU when head coach Kelvin Sampson bolted for Indiana, and so far this tournament, he’s emerged as a star for Nova with 46 points in the two victories. But No. 12 seeds are 0-13 in tournament history against No. 1s, and with Kansas’ balance and skill, that doesn’t figure to change.
Bracket Boy says: The game will be played at Ford Field in Detroit. The Lions are 12 1/2-point underdogs. Pick: Kansas
Michigan State vs. Memphis
Memphis has the flashy freshman, Derrick Rose, running the show. Michigan State has the steady seniors, Drew Neitzel and Travis Walton, and their own talent freshman, Kalin Lucas. The Tigers have more talent, so it will be up to Spartans coach Tom Izzo, who’s as good a tournament coach as anybody in the country, to come up with a way to slow them down.
Bracket Boy says: Memphis hits 59 percent of its free throws. Elvis, on the secret court where he’s hiding at Graceland, hits 62 percent. Pick: Memphis.

9 months, 2 weeks agoProfessor, After Davidson's win tonight, i think you should devote a column to famous Davidsons, e.g., John Davidson, Tommy Davidson (if you get stuck you can go to people that are sons of Davids).

9 months, 2 weeks agoMary, I subscribe to the theory that once you pick a team, you stick with the team. Why go against my brackets? (Besides, Memphis has oodles of talent)

9 months, 2 weeks agoHow can you still back Memphis? Tennessee beat them in Memphis (and then was beaten by Vandy) and Tennessee got slaughtered last night! Did I miss something?
